Evaluations
Conduct psychological and psycho-educational evaluations using interviews, observations, standardized assessments, and other relevant tools to assess cognitive, academic, social, emotional, and behavioural needs.
Analyze and interpret results using clinical judgment and in accordance with the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual – Fifth Edition (DSM-V) standards and the Ordre des psychologues du Québec (OPQ) guidelines.
Disseminate evaluation conclusions to relevant parties (i.e., parents, administrators, teachers, in-school professionals, students) through written report and/or feedback sessions.
Intervention
Participate in the Quality Assurance Verification process.
Propose strategies and make recommendations using evidence-based approaches related to individual student needs.
Consult with and provide support to members of the school team regarding the implementation of recommended strategies.
Consult with school teams and/or multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to the development of students’ individual education plans (IEP) to address cognitive, academic, social, emotional, and behavioural goals and objectives.
Support students and/or parents and help them to identify difficulties, explore solutions, and recommends resources.
Provide advice and support to the school team in matters pertaining to individual students’ schooling needs.
Make referrals and liaison with outside services (e.g., CISSS, hospitals, and social services etc.)
May be called upon to participate in crisis and emergency situations at the school level.
Screenings
Participate in School Level Special Needs Committee meetings (SLSNC).
Contribute to the screening of students experiencing difficulties. This may include observations, communicating with parents and/or teachers, SLSNC meetings, ad hoc meetings, intake meetings, incoming at-risk student screenings, case conferences, and kindergarten orientation.
Review students’ confidential files, documents, and external reports.
